Clear NFU footprint in Brussels

One week of Brussels meetings later, and the NFU footprint in Brussels is clearer than ever before. Many new important contacts were made during NFU’s lobbying week starting November 19 with the AGM of Finance Watch. The discussions were many and often complicated. NFU contributed with the right kind of questions at the right moment, continuously highlighting the employee perspective. We agreed to work much more closely with the experts in Finance Watch, to embed the NFU views even more in their important advocacy work.

NFU also participated in the second bi-annual meeting between UNI Europa Finance and the European Commission in 2012. We discussed for example MiFID, crisis management and banking union. Since both sides were well prepared, discussions were constructive and forward-looking. Already now the dates are set for next year – and a valuable tradition of employee influence over European Commission work continues.

Last but not least, NFU also gave a presentation to the board of FSU Norway that was on a study trip to Brussels. The topics discussed were many with a clear focus on how the union in Norway can work in NFU to maximize its influence over European decision-making, not being a member of the EU.

An intense week of work with intense requirements for follow up – but that is NFU in a nutshell, safeguarding and developing your rights as an employee and trade union representative.
