Employee protests in Finland
On January 19, 200 employees at Danske Bank and Danske Finance in Helsingfors marched out from their workplace in protest against management’s proposed cut-downs.
As a part of the downsizing, Danske Bank and Danske Finance are planning on transferring numerous jobs from Finland to Lithuania.
The proposed job cuts were announced as the mandatory consultations with staff representatives begun. The negotiations concern more than 10 percent of the employees in Finland. This is equivalent to the jobs of 204 employees, of which 49 could be facing redundancies.
The employees’ protest begun during the afternoon of January 19 and ended on the same evening. They all returned to their workstations the morning after.
