NFU seeks General Secretary

Are you a proactive and visionary leader with a strong commitment to trade union values? Do you thrive in a fast-paced and professional international setting? Then you might be the one we are looking for to be the next General Secretary for Nordic Financial Unions.

NFU – Nordic Financial Unions builds cooperation among its member unions and promotes their interests in Europe. Through a high level of competence and dialogue, NFU contributes to a sustainable financial sector, fundamental for job creation and long-term economic development. As the previous General Secretary is moving on to an executive position in one of the NFU member unions, we are now seeking his successor.

As General Secretary you are responsible for leading, developing and managing NFU’s activities in accordance with the guidelines and decisions of the Management Board and President. You take active part in devising the strategic direction of the organisation through proactive and forward-looking initiatives. You represent NFU towards institutions and stakeholders on both Nordic, European and global level, ensuring the organisation’s voice and influence. You contribute to strong cooperation and exchange among the member unions and manage the operations of the NFU Secretariat. You report directly to the Management Board and the NFU President.

As NFU General Secretary you have strong leadership skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You understand trade union work and act with integrity and good judgment, respecting different national and organisational perspectives. Based on political understanding and insight, you transform visions into strategies and practical actions with determination and professionalism. You move flexibly between strategic and operational tasks together with a small but skilled team. You are good at networking and communicate in English at negotiation level.

The position requires a relevant academic degree and you need to have a proven ability to independently deliver results that make a difference. Experience from trade unions and the financial sector is an asset, as well as sound leadership and managerial experience, preferably from a democratically governed organisation. Knowledge of labour market law is an advantage. In addition, you are good at balancing diverging views and contribute to cohesion and cooperation with a strong forward drive. The position is based at the NFU office in Stockholm, Sweden but extensive travel, mainly in Europe, is required.

Please send your application (CV and motivational letter) to NFU President Michael Budolfsen (mb@finansforbundet.dk) no later than March 6, 2020. If you have questions about the position, please contact Michael Budolfsen (+45 32 96 46 00). Visit www.nordicfinancialunions.org for more information about NFU and our activities.
