Insurance social partners strengthen commitment to tackling violence and harassment at work
Workers in the European insurance sector are one step closer to workplaces free from violence and harassment.

On 17 September 2026, the European social partners in the insurance sector signed a new addendum on preventing and addressing violence and harassment at work. The agreement builds on the 2022 Joint Declaration on Diversity, Inclusion and Non-Discrimination and marks an important step towards safer and more inclusive workplaces across the sector.
Signed by UNI Europa Finance, Insurance Europe, AMICE and BIPAR, the addendum establishes, for the first time at European sectoral level, a joint framework for preventing and addressing violence and harassment at work.
The original declaration recognised harassment as a form of discrimination and committed the sector to fostering a workplace culture based on dignity and respect. The new addendum strengthens those commitments by setting out a more detailed approach to prevention, awareness-raising and action.
Following the signing of the addendum, Michael Budolfsen, President of NFU and UNI Europa Finance, said:
“Every worker deserves to feel safe, respected and valued at work. These aren’t add-ons - they’re non-negotiable. The addendum proves what dialogue and cooperation can achieve: a real, shared commitment to ending harassment and violence at work. Together, we can make European insurance workplaces safer for everyone,”
The addendum also brings a gender perspective to occupational health and safety as the social partners commit to promoting gender-sensitive risk assessments, awareness-raising and training as part of their efforts to prevent and address violence and harassment at work.
Susanne Lindberg, Vice-President of NFU and UNI Europa Finance, welcomed the agreement:
“This addendum finally brings a gender perspective into occupational health and safety – an element the sector has needed for far too long.”
