NFU Joins EU-funded Project to Explore AI in the Financial Sector
Last week, Nordic Financial Unions (NFU) participated in the first steering committee meeting of an EU-funded project titled Anthropocentric Approach to Artificial Intelligence. The meeting, held in Athens, marked the beginning of what could become an important exploration into the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the financial sector and its impact on workers.

The project is coordinated by the Italian trade union First Cisl and research partners from Adapt University and KU Leuven. NFU is one of several partners contributing to this effort, which aims to ensure that the digital transformation of the financial sector takes into account employees' perspectives and needs.
Aims of the Project
The Anthropocentric Approach to Artificial Intelligence project aims to:
- Support social dialogue in the financial sector on the implications of digitalisation, particularly in the use of AI-based decision-making and monitoring systems.
- Enhance workers' skills, enabling them to better adapt to the opportunities and challenges of digital transformation.
The project will involve compiling new research, conducting training sessions, and collecting practices and policy recommendations within the field of AI.
Timeline and Next Steps
During the Athens meeting, the research partners shared initial findings that will serve as a starting point for further work. The next step will be training courses for trade union representatives from the partner countries to participate in and share experiences at the beginning of March.
The project, which will run through March 2026, aims to provide practical tools and insights to help the financial sector navigate digitalisation. NFU’s involvement ensures that perspectives from the Nordic region are included.
While the project is in its early phases, NFU is optimistic about the potential outcomes. Updates on the project’s progress and outcomes will be shared as they become available.
